Privacy Policy The controlling language of this Privacy Policy is Japanese; any translations of this Privacy Policy are made only for the purpose of convenience. The Japanese version will take precedence if an inconsistency happens between the Japanese version and the translation(s). This Privacy Policy determines as in the following how Hirose/Tanikawa Laboratory, Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo (hereinafter the "Laboratory") manages personal information of the users collected through the services of "mirai project" (hereinafter the "Service") which the Laboratory offers services using lifelog-based future prediction, thereby the Laboratory makes efforts to keep the Privacy Policy. The Laboratory recognizes that it is the most important duty to manage the rights and interests of individuals at the acquisition and use of personal information. In order to fulfill this duty, the Laboratory declares here that the Laboratory will manage personal information in safe and use it properly along with its purpose. 1. Compliance The Laboratory manages personal information in compliance with the laws concerning management on personal information such as the Protection of Personal Information Law and with other policies and standards defined by the state. 2. Range of Application This Privacy Policy will be applied to the members when they use the Service. Out of the application is the case in which a member leaves his/her personal information after using a website he/she has been directed to through the advertisement on the Website, for the Laboratory cannot bear responsibility. 3. Proper Acquisition and Specification on the Purpose of Use If the Laboratory is going to acquire some personal information, it will do so properly and legally and will collect the personal information within the extent necessary for the accomplishment of a given purpose of use, while making its reason clear. 4. Prohibition on the Use for other Purposes When the Laboratory uses personal information, it will not use it for other purposes which go beyond the extent of the purposes of use you have agreed for. However, that this shall not apply to the following cases: - Cases in which the handling of personal information is based on laws and regulations - Cases in which the provision of personal data is necessary for the protection of the life, body, or property of an individual and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the member - Cases in which the provision of personal data is specially necessary for improving public hygiene or promoting the sound growth of children and in which it is difficult to obtain the consent of the member - Cases in which the provision of personal data is necessary for cooperating with a state institution, a local public body, or an individual or entity entrusted by one in executing the operations prescribed by laws and in which obtaining the consent of the member might impede the execution of the operations concerned 5. Prevention and Rectification on Leakage, Loss and Injury of Personal Information The Laboratory determines its office regulations about the management on personal information, which establishes a control system in which the managers at each department entirely bear the responsibility for the management on the processes of handling personal information ranging from acquisition to abandonment, so that the Laboratory properly manages the personal information. In addition, the Laboratory makes further steps to prevent the leakage, loss and injury of personal information, such as installation of the access control system in the office, safety management on the computer system against unauthorized accesses and viruses, complete supervision on the Laboratory’s workers, trustees and related people. If anything noncompliant is found by detection or complaints of an external organization, by an occurrence of emergency or an internal review under the given control system, the Laboratory will promptly make corrective measures and take precautions. 6. Restriction on Provision to a Third Party The Laboratory will not provide personal information for a third party without permission of the given person, unless there are special circumstances, that is: unless the Laboratory gets his/her agreement; unless a law or a regulation requires to do so; unless it is deemed to be necessary to do so due to the protection of rights and interests such as human life and property; unless a violation of the Terms of Use or a conflict concerning the Service causes disclosure to specialists (ex. lawyers) who bear confidentiality obligation. 7. Disclosures and Modification of Personal Information When the Laboratory is required to disclose, modify or suspend personal information by a given person, it will promptly correspond to that requirement to the reasonable extent, after verifying him/her. Thus, in order to correspond to inquiries and consultations, the Laboratory settles the department of privacy protection and management. However, that this shall not apply to cases when the Laboratory does not have the obligation to correct or to suspense of use base on the act on the Protection of Personal Information or other law. 8. Continuous Improvement The Laboratory will constantly revise and improve the contents of the management system on privacy protection in order to properly manage and protect personal information. 9. Other Provisions This Privacy Policy could be partially or entirely revised. Please make sure that if a member does not provide his/her up-to-date precise personal information, he/she might not receive a proper service. 10. Complaints and Consultations The Laboratory will properly and promptly correspond to inquiries including complaints and consultations related to the Laboratory's treatment on personal information.
